Head Teacher's Message
We hope you all had a wonderful and restful Easter break filled with chocolate treats, family fun, and maybe even a little sunshine! It's lovely to see everyone back at school, full of energy and ready for the exciting term ahead.
As we step into the summer term, we have so much to look forward to – from sports day and school trips to creative projects and sunny playtimes.
Soft Toy Stall – Donations Needed!
Bank Holiday Fun – Monday 5th May
The villages of Read and Simonstone are planning a day full of fun on Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May to celebrate VE Day, and we’re excited to be part of the celebrations!
VE Day Celebrations - Friday 9th May
Our school has been asked to organise a soft toy stall for the event. If you have any soft toys in good condition that you no longer need, we would be very grateful for your donations.
Please drop them off at school anytime next week. All contributions will help make the day a great success, and the proceeds will go toward supporting local community activities.
Thank you so much for your support!
We’re excited to let you know that on Friday 9th May, we will be celebrating VE Day in school!
VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the end of World War II in Europe on 8th May 1945. It’s a day to remember peace, bravery, and the importance of coming together as a community.
To help commemorate this important day in history, we’ve planned a range of fun and meaningful activities for the children to enjoy. These will include themed crafts, games, music, and learning about life during wartime in a child-friendly way.
Children are welcome to come to school dressed in red, white, and blue if they wish. We’re looking forward to a fantastic and memorable celebration!
A Fond Farewell to Miss Threlfall
At the end of this academic year, we will be saying a very fond (and very sad!) farewell to Miss Threlfall, who will be leaving us after more than 20 incredible years at our school.
Miss Threlfall joined us as a newly qualified teacher and, over the years, has taught classes across the school, led many different subjects, and become a hugely valued and much-loved member of our school community. Her dedication, kindness, and passion for teaching have made a lasting impact on so many children – and she will be truly missed by both pupils and staff alike.
While we’re sad to see her go, we’re also incredibly grateful for everything she has done and wish her all the best for her next adventure. We’ll be planning a special goodbye later in the term to celebrate her amazing contribution to our school.
Thank you, Miss Threlfall – for everything.
Year 6 SAT's
A big well done to our Year 6 pupils who have been working so hard in preparation for their SATs! We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, and positive attitude they’ve shown throughout the year.
SATs Week will take place from Monday 12th May to Thursday 15th May. During this time, we want to make sure all our Year 6 children feel calm, confident, and ready to do their best.
To help with this, we will be running a SATs Breakfast Club each morning that week, starting at 8:15am. It’s a great way for the children to have a relaxed start to the day with some food, a friendly chat, and a bit of calm before the tests begin. All Year 6 pupils are welcome to attend!
We’re cheering you on, Year 6 – you’ve got this!
