OUR CURRICULUM INTENT

Sowing the seeds of tomorrow, growing in the light of the Lord

 

At our school, our curriculum is designed to ensure that every child develops the knowledge, skills, understanding and character they need to flourish now and in the future.

 

Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and carefully sequenced. It builds progressively from pupils' starting points, identifies the essential knowledge and skills they need to acquire, and provides opportunities for children to know more, remember more, understand more and apply what they have learned.

 

At the heart of our curriculum are our eight Christian values:

 

FRIENDSHIP • COMPASSION • PERSEVERANCE • RESPECT • SERVICE • TRUST • FORGIVENESS • RESPONSIBILITY

 

These values are not simply taught; they are lived through our curriculum and school community.

We are ambitious for all pupils. Our curriculum is designed so that children with different starting points, including pupils with SEND, can access the full curriculum and achieve well.

 

Teachers use their knowledge of pupils' needs and starting points to adapt teaching appropriately, while maintaining high expectations. Gaps in knowledge are identified and addressed promptly so that pupils can keep up with the curriculum rather than fall further behind.

 

We prioritise strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, vocabulary and communication, enabling children to access and succeed across the wider curriculum.

 

WIDER DEVELOPMENT AND FUTURES

 

Our curriculum extends beyond subject knowledge. Through rich experiences, wider opportunities and our Christian ethos, we develop children's character, confidence, independence and sense of responsibility.

 

We want our children to leave us as:

 

Knowledgeable learners who remember and apply what they have learned.

 

Confident communicators who can express their ideas and listen to others.

 

Resilient individuals who persevere when faced with challenge.

 

Compassionate citizens who respect others and understand their responsibility to their community and wider world.

 

Young people who live our Christian values.

 

Our curriculum is the journey from what children know to who they become.

 

The National Curriculum

The latest National Curriculum was introduced in schools in 2014 and consists of the following subjects which all children must study:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Design technology (DT)
  • Computing
  • History
  • Geography
  • Music
  • Art
  • physical education (PE)
  • PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education).
  • Religious Education
  • French (KS2)
