Year 3

Welcome to Year 3’s Class page. My name is Mr Brad Rushton, I am the class teacher and I work alongside my fantastic teaching assistants Miss Hutchinson and Mrs Storey. Have a look at some of the many activities we participate in throughout the year in the images below:

We recently took part in Accrington Stanley’s Big Shirt Giveaway at the Wham Stadium. Children had the opportunity to take a tour of the ground whilst meeting the staff, players and the mascot Winstanley the bulldog. The children also received a fantastic goody bag as well as their very own Accrington Stanley shirt. A huge thank you to Accrington Stanley FC for inviting us down for another brilliant experience that Year 3 will cherish. Check out our team photo below.

We celebrated the European Languages Day in school with Year 3 choosing to explore what the country of Greece has to offer. We looked at a range of interesting facts about the Greek language and culture before having our own culinary experience of the Greek cuisine before testing out our moves with some traditional Greek dancing.

As part of our Light and Shadows topic in Science, children have been carrying out a range of investigations to explore the properties of light and the formation of shadows. The children were able to use a variety of light sources to do this, including outdoor learning to utilise the sunlight as well as using torches and lasers to test our theories.

Year 3 conducted a local walk around our area as part of our Geography investigations into changes within our local area. This fieldwork will allowed the children to determine the outcome of their decided hypothesis of 'Does environmental quality decrease with distance from the school?'. Children will followed a set route to survey the local streets around the school and assess the environmental quality on a range of chosen factors.
